Where Our Story Began...
Rose and Shears was born out of a profound love for the quiet elegance of the garden.
I learned to love roses slowly, the way they ask to be loved.
At first, they were just flowers—beautiful, thorned, demanding. Then my father-in-law placed a pair of pruning shears in my hand and showed me how to look closer. Not at the bloom, but at the stem. At the angle of a cut. At the quiet decision of what stays and what must be let go so something stronger can grow.
“One cut at a time,” he’d say, patient as the seasons themselves.
In his garden, time moves differently. We wander the narrow paths between rose bushes heavy with color and scent—deep reds, pale blush, fierce yellows catching the light. He knows each rose like an old friend. I learn their names, their habits, their moods. I learn that care is not rushed, that love can be meticulous, intentional, almost reverent.
I lost my father young, before he could teach me the slow wisdom of tending something over years. In this garden, with soil under my nails and sunlight warming my back, I feel a quiet healing I didn’t know I was seeking. My father-in-law never tries to replace what was lost. Instead, he stands beside me, showing me how to nurture life, how patience can be a form of love.
